The Spirol® Series 10 Self-Tapping threaded nut insert is designed for use in soft, flexible thermoplastics and thermosets. The Series 10 Self-Tapping Insert has a course external thread which forms an internal thread within a molded or pre-drilled hole during the installation process into a plastic component.
Self-Tapping Inserts offer excellent pull-out resistance for an after-molded install. The external thread design, with their thin profile, minimizes forced stress into the plastic and the wider distance between the threading to allow the maximum plastic shear surface to resist pull-out.
During installation, the tightening process increases the friction between the plastic and threads. The larger diameter of the external Insert thread increases the frictional surface, resulting in no issues with torque. The surface area of the external insert thread and the tension between the threads and plastic dictate the back-out torque performance.
The Series 10 Self-Tapping Inserts are available in inch threads ranging from 4-40 to ¼-20.
The Series 10 Self-Tapping Inserts are available in metric threads ranging from M3 to M6.
