Genuine Replacement Mandrels are an essential accessory for maintaining the performance, accuracy, and reliability of your rivet nut installation tool. Designed with a black threaded tip, mandrels provide the connection point where the rivet nut threads onto the mandrel and connects into the pneumatic, battery, or manual tool before installation. Mandrels work hand-in-hand with another accessory, called anvils (see Anvil section for more information), for rivet nut installation.

Because mandrels are thread-size specific, it is important to use the correct mandrel for the rivet nut size being installed. Proper fit helps ensure consistent installations and reduces the risk of thread damage or premature wear.

Bollhoff Mandrels are crafted from tool hardened steel and produced to exacting machining tolerances to ensure high quality, repeatable installations. When used in a proper production environment, they can provide thousands of successful installs.

In addition to genuine Böllhoff mandrels, we stock replacement mandrels for many other rivet nut tool brands. Designs and dimensions vary by manufacturer, so appearance may differ depending on the application.

Genuine Replacement Anvils are an essential accessory for maintaining the performance, accuracy, and reliability of your rivet nut installation tool. The anvil is the black component located at the front of the tool, it slides over the mandrel. The anvil provides the contact surface against which the rivet nut head presses during the setting process. Together with the mandrel, the anvil helps take on immense install pressures necessary to create the bulge on the installed rivet nut.

Anvils work together with mandrels (see Mandrel section for more information). Because mandrels and anvils are designed for specific rivet nut sizes and styles, proper selection is important. For example, installing an M6 threaded rivet nut requires both an M6 mandrel and an M6 anvil.

Mandrels and Anvils Are Consumable Wear Items

Mandrels and anvils are considered consumable components and should be inspected regularly as part of routine tool maintenance. may require regular replacement as part of normal tool maintenance. During the installation process, the mandrel threads repeatedly engage with the rivet nut threads and over time the mandrel will wear out, usually after a few thousand installs in a good production environment. The anvil supports the rivet nut head and typically can last 50,000+ installs before needing replacement, depending on your operating environment. This metal-to-metal contact naturally causes wear therefore these are considered consumables that you can purchase directly from us, Rivet Nut USA™, a division of Cardinal Components, Inc.

Signs That You Need to Order Replacements:

  1. Damaged or worn mandrel threads
  2. Increased difficulty threading rivet nuts onto the mandrel
  3. Visible wear, damage, or deformation on the anvil face
  4. Reduced installation consistency, such as, the rivet nut bulge does not fully form or the rivet nut threads are getting striped.

Mandrels and anvils are required for all pneumatic, battery-operated, and manual installation tools, including these Rivet Nut USA™ models:

Pneumatic Tools: 4107; 4080; 4090; 6703; 9043

Battery-operated Tools: B4090; B4107; B4109

Manual Tools: 140-2000; M2007/2070; c3600; c722; c845; c1000

Regular inspection and timely replacement help maintain optimal tool performance and installation quality. The best option is to order a backup supply for each thread size.

At Rivet Nut USA™, we recommend having these reordering protocols in place:

  1. Establish reorder points based on usage rates and production environment, installer, or material.
    1. Estimated replacement cycles for mandrels are about 3,000-5,000 installs.
    2. Estimated replacement cycles for anvils are about 50,000 installs.
  2. Replace worn mandrels and anvils before performance is affected.
  3. Keep safety stock on hand for critical operations

Having replacement mandrels and anvils readily available helps keep your fastening operation running efficiently and minimizes costly delays.
