Bollhoff RIVNUT® Product Types
Knurled Round or Half-Hex Body
What is a Rivet Nut? A Rivet Nut is a one-piece tubular RIVET that includes internal threads that act as a NUT. The rivet nut is installed blindly: it installs from the front side and no access to the backside is needed. The rivet nut install tool pulls the rivet nut internal threads up to create a secure bulge on the backside of the parent application. Rivet nuts, or threaded nut inserts, are known for installation efficiency, as the installation takes seconds to occur, and no damage nor finishing work is required on the rivet nut or parent application. Now installed, the rivet nuts lend to the parent application REUSABLE high-quality internal threads that allows secondary materials to be attached via a male bolt.
Rivet nuts come in many shapes and sizes: open-end, closed-end (good for water control), round body, hex body, thick head, thin head, etc. Rivet nuts are great in a variety of applications such as tubes, panels, enclosures, thin sheet metal, thin plastic composites, and the list goes on!
Rivet Nut USA™ (an operating division of Cardinal Components, Inc.) is your Preferred Authorized Bollhoff Distributor of the Bollhoff RIVNUT®. Bollhoff RIVNUT® fasteners are the ORIGINAL trademarked version of rivet nuts, and via acquisition, Bollhoff acquired the RIVNUT® trademark and manufacturing facility that B.F. Goodrich originally invented in 1936. To provide our customers with the best availability and variety, we also offer non-Bollhoff rivet nuts & fasteners. Rivet nuts also go by other names such as Nutsert®, blind internally threaded insert, or blind nut plate.
Rivet nuts generally provide stronger mechanical performance and benefits over other fastening alternatives, including avoiding the need to directly tap your parent application: if a rivet nut “fails” or “spins”, then it’s as easy as using a smaller drill bit to drill it out (the rivet nut will fall apart in two pieces) and then the user can simply re-install a new rivet nut in the same hole (no need to “increase” hole size either, as some other fasteners require during retrofits…amazing!) Rivet nuts are the perfect replacement for weld nuts that require welding equipment, nut-and-bolt systems that are difficult put together, self-tapping screws that damage the parent material, or pressed inserts that have weaker spin-out and pull-out performance.
Rivet nuts require no finishing work and solve even the most challenging fastening problems. Internally threaded rivet nuts are typically available in aluminum, steel, and stainless steel (sometimes, brass). Round body rivet nuts can offer a special feature of a fully cold-formed, externally knurled body for increased spin-out resistance, or an external “key” feature under the head that locks into its “keyhole” for even better spin-out resistance, or look to a hex body rivet nut for superior best-of-class spin-out resistance. RIVNUTS® generally have a tapered shank for automation and hole insertion ease. These fasteners can be installed into dissimilar materials and certain rivet nuts offer internal rolled threads for increased thread strength. When needing to mate a secondary attachment to the parent application, the rivet nut is the go-to fastener for manufacturers in all industries, including automotive, appliance, food equipment, and aerospace. The rivet nut offers productivity gains over nearly every other fastener alternative (weld nuts, nut and bolts, press in inserts, etc.).
Productivity gains are facilitated by the ease of installation, which occurs via the selection of installation tools that Rivet Nut USA™ has tested and has AVAILABLE NOW for easy-to-use and reliable rivet nut installation. we offer pull-to-pressure, pull-to-stroke, and battery-operated pull-to-pressure pneumatic nut insert tools (such as our 4090, B4090 & 6703) and manual hand tools (C845, C722, C6000 & 140-2000).
